The Difference Between Infrared Sauna And Steam Sauna

The main difference between infrared sauna and steam sauna is the way the saunas generate heat. Infrared saunas use a safe wavelength of light (or energy) that heats the body directly (the same way natural sunlight does) as opposed to heating the air in the sauna cabin-like steam saunas.

Infrared saunas don’t raise the temperature of the air in the sauna. When the body is heated with infrared light it creates a cardiovascular workout for the body whilst removing heavy metals and toxins.

Which Sauna Is Better Infrared Or Steam?

When it comes to which sauna is better infrared or steam, of course, we’re going to say infrared saunas! But with good reason, Not only do infrared saunas heat the body at a lower & more comfortable temperature, but the effect the heat has on the body can also achieve more effective results.

You see, both types of saunas cause our bodies to sweat however when we sweat as a result of infrared light the composition of chemicals found in the sweat is vastly different from the sweat produced by a steam sauna (or exercise for that matter). The sweat produced by steam saunas and other methods such as exercise mostly contains water and sodium chloride (salt) only. The sweat caused by far infrared sauna will contain water, but also cholesterol, fat-soluble toxins, heavy metals (e.g. mercury, aluminium, and arsenic), nicotine, sulfuric acid, ammonia, and lots of other undesirables that we don’t want in our body.

Another interesting point to note when it comes to the difference between infrared sauna and steam sauna is that using your infrared sauna regularly has a cumulative effect on the body thus magnifying its benefits. Need an excuse to sit back, relax and enjoy your sauna (and all the amazing health benefits of using said sauna)? There you have it!

So now you know the differences between an infrared sauna and a steam sauna, you can make a choice as to which sauna is better – infrared or steam, based on your preferences and requirements.
