How Hot Are Infrared Saunas?

By

Some people find the temperatures of traditional steam and hot rock saunas uncomfortable so one of the first questions they ask when looking into infrared saunas is ‘how hot are infrared saunas?’

Below is information on infrared sauna temperature including ‘how hot can infrared sauna get?’ and ‘how hot should an infrared sauna be?’

Found—Space is now supplying top-quality saunas to New Zealand (since 2022). We don’t just see ourselves as a sauna company though – we strive to support every customer’s journey towards better health. We work with clients to help them get the most out of their sauna and provide ongoing support through regular health web events and an online Found—Space support group. We pride ourselves on not only providing the highest quality infrared sauna systems in New Zealand but also the customer service to match! Here is information on infrared saunas and temperature:

Infrared Sauna Temperatures

Infrared saunas use safe wavelengths of light to heat the body directly – they don’t need to heat the air around you like traditional saunas do (only heating the surface of the skin). Infrared heat can penetrate deeper into the body warming you from the inside first, which is what makes them so effective. This is why infrared saunas can operate at a lower, more comfortable temperature.

How Hot Can Infrared Saunas Get?

How hot can infrared sauna get is usually up to 65°C – our saunas can heat to 70; Compared to traditional saunas that usually operate between 70°C – 100°C. When considering how hot can infrared sauna get, bear in mind that heating your body directly as opposed to the air around you can also make infrared sauna sessions more comfortable for you as well.

How Hot Should An Infrared Sauna Be?

How hot should an infrared sauna be will ultimately depend on your preferences and what you’re most comfortable with, however, we recommend a sauna temperature of 45°C – 55°C (with a session duration of around 30-45 minutes).

You can set your preferred temperature as you are setting up for your sauna session. The heaters will automatically maintain the desired temperature inside the sauna however you can also open the ceiling vent or door of your sauna at any time until you achieve a comfortable temperature. Be sure to remember to drink plenty of water before, during and after your sauna session too.

Our team of infrared sauna experts will work with you to determine what temperature is best for you but some of our tips for a more effective and comfortable sauna session include:

  • Position the heaters to specific areas that you would like to target
  • Place a towel on the bench and floor of the sauna and keep an extra towel handy to wipe sweat from your body
  • Take a hot shower before your sauna session to promote perspiration and/or take a cold shower post-session (this cleanses the skin, closes pores and activates cold shock proteins in the body, which can help assimilate fat for weight loss)
